| The F2001 is
Ferrari's 47th racing car designed specifically for the Formula 1 World
Championship.
Powered by a V10 engine, the new single seater was designed and built in Maranello. The design of the body differs substantially from that of previous cars due to the modifications called for the new FIA technical regulations to improve safety. Compared to the car that won the World Championship last year, the most obvious differences concerns the aerodynamics, with a lower nose cone, the front wing positioned higher and longer side pods. These modifications were all developed in the wind tunnel in accordance with the new regulations. As far as the running gear is concerned, the new 050 engine is a stressed member and is mounted longitudinally, as is the sequential electro-hydraulic 7-speed gearbox in pre-machined and welded titanium. The F2001 retains the periscope-style exhausts. Great attention has once more been paid to lowering the car's center of gravity - working on both the chassis and engine - and concentrating the car's mass to optimise balance. |
